Memorial service: 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Michaels and All Angels Episcopal Church in Dallas.
Memorials: Memorial gifts be made in Eugenia Hansen's name to Texas A&M Foundation, 401 George Bush Drive, College Station, Texas 77840.
She was born Dec. 14, 1955, in Phoenix, Ariz., to Carl Wesley Simmons and Berthe Louise Simmons, both now deceased. She attended elementary school in Arizona and Southern California, junior high in Los Angeles, Calif., and high school in Cherry Hill, N.J., and Houston. She received her bachelor's and master's degrees in biochemistry from Texas A&M University in 1977 and 1979, and her JD from the University of Houston in 1984. Genie met Bill Hansen at Texas A&M and they were married in May 1979. Genie and Bill moved to Dallas, where she began her law practice at Richards, Medlock & Andrews, and later at Sidley, Austin, Brown & Wood while Bill worked as a pharmacist in Grand Prairie. Their first child, Todd William Hansen, was born in December 1987 and daughter Kaitlyn Michelle Hansen was born in February 1993. Her husband, Bill, passed away Sept. 15, 2002. In 2005, Genie partnered with Scott Hemingway in the law firm Hemingway and Hansen.
Genie's favorite things were her kids, the Texas Rangers and all things A&M. She was a season ticket holder for the Rangers and Aggie football, and virtually so for every game Todd and Kaitlyn played in. She greatly contributed to her church and her children's schools, serving for six years on the school board of St. Alban's Episcopal School, as president for two years. She later attended St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church and volunteered as a mock trial coach at the Episcopal School of Dallas for five years. She was also involved in DFW Women in IP Law Group, Chi Omega Mother's Association, Texas Aggie Bar Association, AIPLA, State Bar of Texas, Dallas Women's Lawyers Association, Texas Aggie Women's Group and Dallas A&M Club. Genie was a giver to the people around her, and she was respected and cherished by all who knew her at school, church and in the legal community.
