Dorothy Ann Patterson, age 53, went home to glory on Friday, August 9, 2019, at home in Mansfield, Texas. Her husband, Carl and son, William surrounded her during her transition. From her birth in Perry (Georgia), on November 28, 1965 to her death on Friday, August 9, 2019 she nourished people around her, especially family with love and kindness. Dorothy’s words would always minister grace. She was born in Perry, Georgia to Mrs. Lillie B. Gray and Mr. Tommie L. Gary. Both parents preceded her in death. Dorothy was one of eight children born to the union of Lille and Tommie Gary. Dorothy attended public schools in Perry and graduated from North Side High School in 1984. Dorothy accepted Christ at a young age and attended Church in Perry, Ga. After graduating from high school, she attended Fort Valley University and earned a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration in 1989. Upon graduating from college, Dorothy held several leadership positions within several large corporations including Bank One, Verizon, and XCEL Energy Corporation to name a few. Dorothy met the “love” of her life Carl Patterson, and they were married on April 27, 1996. The demands of Carl’s job as an engineer required extensive travel and relocation. Carl and Dorothy have lived in Sunnyvale, California, Phoenix, Arizona, and Minneapolis, Minnesota to name a few. Dorothy gave birth to her “pride and joy” William Patterson, on March 23, 2005. As a Proverbs 31 Woman, Dorothy dedicated her life to caring and serving Carl and William. She took great pride and loved (more like spoiled) her husband and son. Carl and William (husband and son) loved and spoiled Dorothy. They settled in Mansfield, Texas in 2005, where Dorothy volunteered her services. She was involved in several community organizations and efforts supporting people of modest means. Dorothy was a substitute teacher in the Mansfield School District. Dorothy loved her entire family. She cherished spending time with her siblings. She loved attending family reunions. She was fond and proud of her niece Ms. Nasia Blanson. Dorothy encouraged Nasia to pursue college with rigor and excellence. Dorothy had a wonderful relationship with her in-laws, Mr. Robert and Mrs. Kathy Patterson and lovingly referred to them as Mr. P and Mrs. P.
She was selfless and collaborated with Mrs. Robin Patterson-Nixon, and Dr. Clarence Nixon, her sister and brother in law in raising William. Dorothy faithfully sent William to Detroit many summers to help propel him (William) academically. Dorothy was proud of the progress William was making academically, especially the A’s and B’s on his report card. Dorothy and William joined and were members of the Potters House Church of Dallas Texas. Dorothy Patterson, a faithful and loving Mother, Wife, Daughter, Aunt, and Sister “fought the good fight”. She was patient and loving through her affliction and illness. The Lord called Dorothy Patterson home on Friday, August 9, 2019.
