Born and raised in Windthorst, TX to John and Philomena Zihlman where she helped at the family "filling station". She met the love of her life, Ed while he was drilling for water nearby. They were married in 1942 while he was working in California. She returned to Texas while Ed served in the Pacific during WWII, living with her parents who had moved to Arlington. It is there where they made their home for the rest of their lives and raised three children.
Dancing was her greatest joy. Music set her toes to tapping and soon to be moving to the sway of the Big Band era music. She and Ed would go dancing almost every weekend with friends from across the metroplex. After his death, she would continue to go dancing until her health would not permit it.
She taught kindergarten at St Maria Goretti Catholic School for a number of years, dedicated to the children she taught. Many remember her to this day.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her sister Anna Mae ("Jimmie") and a son, Kenneth.
She is survived by a daughter, Karen Simmons (John), son Tim Hoffman (Linda) 6 grandchildren, 6 great and 1 great-great grandchild.
The family extends a special thank you to Heartis Assisted Living in Arlington for their care of mom these past few years.
