age of 90, returned to her heavenly home peacefully on April 4,
2016 surrounded by loving family.
Dora was born to Adalberto & Justina Herrera on June 23,
1925 in San Ygnacio, Texas. She married Evaristo Martinez Jr.
on May 30, 1943 and had three children: Evaristo III in 1944,
Dora Elena in 1945, and Anna Maria in 1946. The family moved
to Abilene in 1955 where she worked at Hendrick Memorial
Hospital in pediatrics and as an clerk for the anesthesia
department for 36 years. She was active in her community as
she served as a Eucharistic Minister and lector at St. Vincent’s
Pallotti Catholic Church, and worked also as a civil rights advocate.
Her love, devotion, and care for her family and friends was always ever present.
Dora is survived by her two daughters: Anna Maria Vedro of Arlington, Dora Elena
Brady of Irving and her husband Ted. Four grandchildren: Mary McKean and her
husband Donnie of Arlington, John Vedro and his wife Amanda of Fort Worth, Melissa Skains and her husband Steve of Arlington, and Charles Brady also of Arlington. Ten great-grandchildren: Johnathan, Kenlea, Emrie, Riley, Isaac, Mia, Addison, Reegan,
Christian and Molly. And one sister: Refugia Happock and her husband David of Twin Falls, Idaho.
Souls that she joined in passing are her parents Adalberto & Justina, her husband,
Evaristo Jr. her son, Evaristo III and her sisters: Delia Martinez, Ninfa Solis, and Maria
Idalia Solis.
Special thanks to Arlington Villa Nursing Home healthcare workers that lovingly cared for her over the past couple of years, especially: Brother Lyle, “Joyful” Joyce, “Reliable” Rebekah, “Smiling” Sylvester, “Personable” Patsy, “Pleasant” Polly and “Thoughtful” Tara.
Visitation will be held at Moore Funeral Home in Arlington, Texas on Thursday April 7th from 6-8 PM. Funeral Mass is scheduled at St. Vincent’s Pallotti Catholic Church in Abilene, Texas on Saturday April 9th at 10AM with burial to follow at Elmwood Memorial Park also in Abilene. Flowers and condolences can be delivered during business hours by Friday April 8th to St. Vincent’s at 2525 Westview Drive Abilene, Texas 79603; or

Dora’s legacy of honesty, decency, courage, hard work, value of education, and eternal
love of family will live on through her loving family and friends. Vaya con dios nuestro
