Dee Anne Egan, 72, passed away on May 7, 2022. A Celebration of her Life will be held Saturday, July 23, at 2:00 pm at Moore Funeral Home, 1219 N. Davis Drive, Arlington, Texas 76012. Because Dee Anne loved the color red, please feel free to honor and delight her by wearing that color. A private family graveside service will be held that morning at Sparkman Hillcrest Cemetery in Dallas beside her mother and father.
Dee Anne was born on July 27, 1949, in Dallas to Edward James Egan originally from Chicago and Doris Anne Hollinshead of Dallas. When she was 13 months old, her father died; and she and her mother continued to live in Dallas. Dee Anne graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1967 and from Stephen F. Austin State University in 1972. She also received a Master of Education from Texas A&M and a Mid-Management Certificate from Texas Women’s University.
Dee Anne’s primary career was in education and primarily with Dallas Independent School District:
- 1972-1974: Third grade teacher at C. F. Carr Elementary
- 1974-1976: A first and fourth grade teacher in Zweibrucken, Germany, at
American Elementary School #1, US Department of Defense Dependent

- 1976-1989: An art and math teacher at Alex Sanger Elementary
- 1989-1991: Staffing Specialist with Human Resources
- 1991-1993: Assistant Principal at George Peabody Elementary
- 1993-1998: Employment Administrator with Human Resources
- 1998-2003: Assistant Principal at George Peabody Elementary
- 2003-2015: Principal of George Peabody Elementary *
* With the last years resulting in the school moving from Recognized to Exemplary on the State level and to Blue Ribbon on the National level.
Dee Anne retired in 2015 after 43 years of dedicated service to Dallas Independent School District.
After retirement Dee Anne traveled and wanted to have regular “field trips” to places/events that she had not had the time to do. She also joined Bible Study Fellowship enjoying the various studies and the women she met, plus enhancing her relationship with the Lord. She was artistic, creative, witty, a dedicated teacher and administrator, and a great encourager. Dee Anne loved and cherished all of her dogs, found joy in knitting and reading, and enjoyed European football (soccer). In addition, she practiced yoga, enjoyed photography, belonged to a book club, and enjoyed working in her yard.
Dee Anne was preceded in death by her parents, two stepfathers – Ralph Wright and Thomas Murphy – four previous dogs, and several cousins.
Dee Anne is survived by her three dogs – Abby, Annie, and Oliver – who are presently placed in foster care awaiting adoption. She is also survived by eight cousins and their spouses on the Hollinshead side:
Michael Till (Sherry), Round Rock; Sandra Haddock, Fort Worth; Karen Custer, Plano; Kim Gilliland (Judy), New Hampshire; Deborah Fleming (Ken), Colorado; Charlene Tribble, Fort Worth; Wes Holllinshead (Lisa), Garland; Karen Hollinshead, North Carolina.
On the Egan side, Dee Anne is survived by 28 cousins – the majority of whom she never met; but with four of them she had recently developed Facebook communication – David Eppenstein, Michele Egan, Mary McKirchy, all of Illinois, and Sheila Egan of Arizona.
She is survived by other second cousins but had a special relationship with Russell Haddock and Nicholas Haddock and their families.
