Chrystal Mitchell, 96, died peacefully at a nursing home in Austin, Texas, on Wednesday, August 16, 2017. She was the first of three daughters born to Robert Franklin Mitchell and Gladys Louise Lokey Mitchell. She was born in Mount Pleasant, Texas, on November 19, 1920. She moved to Fort Worth at age 5. She graduated from Paschal High School in 1938.
She was certified as a Red Cross Nurses’ Aid in 1943, and worked as a part-time volunteer in Fort Worth hospitals. In 1939 she had become a beautician. She worked as a hairdresser for over 68 years, and owned her own shop for 28 years, Bluebonnet Beauty Salon. She was past president of the Texas Association of Accredited Beauty Culturists (now Texas Beauty Association). She retired from Mam’zelle’s in 2007, at the age 86, and still had 5 customers that she started with.
She was a member of Travis Avenue Baptist Church.
She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi since 1948, her last chapter being the Torchbearer Epsilon Chapter. She was a past member of Altrusa and the Rejebian Book Review club.
She had many friends, and she loved to travel, especially with her long-standing boyfriend, Mr. C. A. Rogers, who preceded her in death.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, and her sister Clella Mitchell George Wells. She is survived by her sister, Cherilyn (Cheri) Randall of Austin; her niece Melinda Hicks (and husband Alan) of Fort Worth; nephews Sam Randall of Austin, Mark Randall and Aaron Randall of Round Rock; niece Martha Randall of La Grange; nephews Hugh George (and wife Judy) of Springfield, MO, and Paul George of White Settlement; and lots of great nieces and nephews and extended family; as well as many, many friends . She touched so many people’s lives, and she will be greatly missed.
Graveside services will be held at Moore Memorial Gardens in Arlington, on Saturday September 16, 2017 at Noon.
