Carol grew up in Austin, Texas, graduating in 1958 from Austin High School. She finished a biology degree from the University of Texas in 1963. She was an excellent student and earned several high honors.
After graduation, Carol took a job as a secretary at LTV in Grand Prairie. There she met and subsequently married her husband of 50 years, Gerald (Jerry) S. McCorkle on August 12, 1957. The couple settled in Irving, Texas. Carol loved being with children. For the next eighteen years she focused on raising their three daughters. She was in the PTA, a room mother, and a Girl Scout troop leader and enjoyed teaching her daughters sewing, swimming, piano, and cooking as well as reading stories to them. The family enjoyed great vacations to national parks around the country. Later in life, she and Jerry enjoyed traveling around the world.
When her youngest daughter entered junior high, Carol reentered the workforce, joining Maxus Energy Corporation as a Treasure’s Assistant. Going to night school, she entered the University of Texas at Arlington as an accounting major in 1982. By 1990, she advanced to Associate Accountant. She completed her accounting degree in 1993, placing 43rd in a class of 306. Honors included Beta Gamma Sigma, Beta Alpha Psi, and Alpha Chi. Carol worked at Maxus until 1994, when Maxus was purchased and moved to Houston.
In 2004, Carol went to work for the Arlington ISD, managing testing at Amos and Pearcy Elementary Schools. In 2013, she was named Pearcy’s Para-Professional of the Year, by a vote of the Pearcy teachers and para-professionals. Carol retired in June, 2017.
Carol is survived by her husband, Gerald McCorkle, daughters Karen “Anne” Garrett (husband, Joseph) of Baldwin, Maryland, Julie Jeanine Hester (husband, Daniel) of Keller, Texas, and Susan “Beth” Barron (husband, David) of Centennial, Colorado, grandchildren Rebecca Thompson, Daniel Thompson, Emily Hester, Katherine Hester, Alexa Barron, and Ryan Barron. She was preceded in death by her parents Frances and William Farmer and her brother, Forrest Clark Farmer.
A funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, August 4, at the Moore Funeral Home in Arlington, Texas, conducted by Dr. Howard Hedges. Interment will follow at the Moore Memorial Park. The family will receive friends during a visitation on Thursday at the Moore Funeral Home from 6:00 to 8:00 pm.
