Victoria “Vickie” Hinterhauser was born on November 2, 1956, in Chicago, Illinois to Francis and Jane (nee Grzelak) Pacana. She died on Wednesday, September 27, 2023, at Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights surrounded by her loving family.
Vickie is survived by her husband of 43 years, John; her children Melissa Spinazzola, Kristin (Jason) Sander, and her precious fur-baby, Kirby; her grandchildren Brooke Sander, Lexi Sander, and Francesca Spinazzola; her sisters Christine (Mal) Karnes and Marie (John) Braithwaite; her nieces Jennifer (Kevin) Neidy-Karnes and Deanna (Leo) Sanches da Silva; her nephew Nick Braithwaite, as well as her mother-in-law Anna (late Jakob) Hinterhauser. She was preceded in death by her parents and father-in-law.
Vickie loved her family with all her heart. She was a devoted wife to John. In their decades together they traveled extensively. They enjoyed long car rides and going out to eat. An ever-supportive wife, she fully embraced John’s golf habits (although we suspect that might have had more to do with freeing up time to pursue her own interests, like reading and watching her favorite shows). While they thoroughly enjoyed their marriage, their biggest adventure was raising their family together.
Vickie’s daughters were her entire world and she provided them with the best childhood ever. She was such an active part of their lives- she regularly volunteered at their school. She could always be found on the sidelines cheering them on in their various sports and activities. But her unwavering support didn’t stop there. She cheered them on in life. She celebrated their victories and consoled them during the hard times. She instilled a love of travel and a healthy obsession with Disney in her girls from a young age.
As her daughters grew older, she became more than just a mom- she became a trusted advisor and best friend. She knew exactly how to make each of her daughters feel her love. She always had the best advice. Perhaps the greatest gift she gave them was an example of how to be a loving mother and they cherish the years she was able to support them on their motherhood journey.
After years of being the best Mom, she earned a new title, Mama. Her granddaughters absolutely adored her. She was very involved in each of their lives. She came to their sporting events, field trips, and vacations; she was always up for a fun adventure. She made sure to always have their favorite snacks available and always knew the best, most personalized gifts for any occasion. While she didn’t get as many years with them as she deserved, she made sure to fill the years she had with love.
As much as she adored her whole family, they loved her even more. They will never forget her.
