Richard Philip Donaldson, 88, of Estero, FL, passed away on Saturday, June 2, 2018. Formerly of Chicago, IL, he had been a resident of Bonita Springs and Estero since 1999. He was born October 21, 1929 in Skiatook, OK.

Richard went to Waller High School in Chicago and was in the ROTC program. After high school he attended the Illinois Institute of Technology and served as a Sergeant in the National Guard. He founded Vanguard Tool & Engineering in 1957.

In his free time Dick became a private pilot and was also an avid golfer, becoming President of the Medinah Country Club in 1988. He also served as President of Country Shrine Club at Medinah and served as a board member of The Forest Country Club, Florida. He also enjoyed trap and skeet shooting at Medinah Country Club.

Mr. Donaldson is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Jean (née Janowitz); his beloved sons, Gary (the late Anne) Donaldson of Arlington Heights, IL and Kurt (Laura) Donaldson of Elk Grove Village, IL; his brother, Michael (Patty) Link of Mesa, AZ; six cherished grandchildren, Evan (Natalia) Donaldson, John Donaldson, Lisa Donaldson, Michael Donaldson, Cheryl (Kevin) Stein and Stephen Donaldson; and four treasured great grandchildren, Jaylyn, Ashlyn, Amberley and Ethan; his sister in law Sybil Donaldson and Dolores Hassenplug; his nieces and nephews, Erin Leibow, Patrick Donaldson, Peggy Donaldson, Danny Donaldson, Kenneth Hassenplug, Jr., James Hassenplug and Thomas Hassenplug.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Earl Donaldson and brother in law Kenneth Hassenplug, Sr.

Visitation 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm Monday, June 18, 2018 at Glueckert Funeral Home, 1520 N. Arlington Heights Rd. (4 blocks south of Palatine Rd.) Arlington Heights, where a prayer service will take place at 7:00 pm. Funeral service 10:00 am Tuesday, June 19, 2018 at the funeral home.

Interment St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery, Palatine.
