Katherine “Kat” Anne Hedlund, 75, of Buffalo Grove, IL, passed away on November 13, 2024. Born Donald Alvin Hedlund on June 14, 1949, in Evanston, IL, Kat’s life journey was defined by courage, perseverance, and a commitment to authenticity.
A proud veteran of the United States Air Force, Kat served her country from 1969 to 1973 during the Vietnam Era, achieving the rank of E-4. Her military service took her to Guam, Hawaii, Okinawa, and Thailand, and she later traveled extensively across all 50 states.
Kat spent most of her adult life in Buffalo Grove, where she raised her family and served her community. She earned an MBA and built a distinguished career as a Senior Consultant in the telecommunications industry, contributing her expertise to organizations such as Allstate, Sears, AT&T, and IBM.
Kat was deeply involved in her local community, serving for 13 years as an elected Park Commissioner for the Buffalo Grove Park District. In this role, she held positions as treasurer, vice president, and president, leaving a lasting impact on the parks and recreation services in her town.
One of Kat’s most cherished memories was the time she spent with her father, whether keeping him company on long car rides or lending a hand during his second job. These moments of connection and shared effort remained a guiding example of love and dedication throughout her life.
Kat is survived by her former spouse, Connie (Hanson) Hedlund-Komora, and their children: James (Michele) Hedlund, with their children Logan and Kaia; Joshua (Ryoko) Hedlund, with their child Ao; Elizabeth Hedlund; and Jessica Hedlund, with her children Harley and Jack. She is also survived by her siblings, Dianne Hanshaw and Douglas Hedlund. Kat was preceded in death by her parents, Eleanor and Fred Hedlund, and her brother, David Hedlund.
Kat will be remembered for her resilience, her dedication to family and community, and her unwavering belief in the power of kindness and connection.
A Celebration of Life Service will take place Wednesday November 20, 2024 from 2:00 PM until 6:00 PM at Chandler’s Chophouse 401 N. Roselle Rd Schaumburg, IL. 60194
