Bernhard M Luginsky, age 81, passed away on Saturday June 29, 2019 at the Amita Health Alexian Brothers Hospice Residence in Elk Grove Village IL. He was born on February 18, 1938 in Riga, Latvia to Joseph Luginsky and Toni Luginsky Thompson. Bernie grew up in Hamburg, Germany. He graduated from high school] in Riga, Latvia. In 1966, Bernie moved to the United States and began to work towards becoming a US citizen. After several years of hard work and dedication he officially became a United States citizen on December 15, 1983. Bernie worked as a union painter for most of his work-life, as well as carpentry, maintenance, and construction. Bernie married Karen L Jeffery in 1969 and had three beautiful daughters. They were married for 9 years. Bernie enjoyed painting, building things, reading, watching Columbo and Live PD, hanging out with his grandkids, and heavy metal music. Bernie was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Hildy Luginsky, and Carl and Toni Thompson (Luginsky), and his brother Dieter Luginsky. Bernie is survived by his daughters, Christine Thompson (Mike), Rachel Luginsky, and Jennifer Bernardino (Mike), his grandchildren, Sarah and Christopher Bernardino, and his two grand-dogs, Darla and Digger.
A visitation and memorial service will be held on Friday, July 5, 2019 from 12:00PM at Lauterburg & Oehler Funeral Home at 2000 East Northwest Highway Arlington Heights, IL 60004. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery and Mausoleums.
