Kathy had a fulfilling career as one of the first sworn female Police Officers with the Long Beach Police Department in California. She served for 30 years. Her dedication to serving her community was truly admirable.
After her retirement from LBPD, Kathy and her husband Don moved to the Big Island of Hawaii and the Kailua-Kona community. They both soon were fully integrated into the island life.
In her free time, Kathy found joy in baking for others and creating art from the island foliage. Her creativity and generosity touched the lives of many, far and wide.
She is survived by her children; Don Vilander (Joan), Jay Vilander (Debi), Steve Swan, Dana Vilander, Annette Parsons (Mike), Eric Vilander (Hollie), as well as her many beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Kathy was preceded in death by her husband Billy Ray Swan, their son Jack Swan, and her second husband Don Vilander, as well as many other beloved family members.
The funeral arrangements are being handled by Dignity Memorial and Forest Lawn Cemetery in Cypress CA.
Kathy will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but her memory will live on in the hearts of those she touched.
