Born: April 30, 1929, to George Palko & Grace Beth Palko (Hollen). She died on April 5, 2024, at the age of 94. She was born in Weslaco, TX and grew up in Donna, TX. She was one of ten (10) children.
She attended school at LSU and graduated as a Registered Nurse from the Charity Nursing School in New Orleans.
She married Joseph Lax Akerman, MD on January 2, 1950. They had five (5) children: Joseph Lax, Jr. (Hollis), Marian Beth (Gene), Amos Tappan (Kristi), John Michaels (Gayle), and Mary Louise (Earl).
She served as a Den Mother for all three boys in the Cub Scouts and served for both girls as a leader with the Girl Scouts. She remained active with Scouting teaching at Philmont and the Central Florida Council.
She was an active member of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Apopka. Teaching Bible studies and Sunday school.
She enjoyed quilting, jigsaw puzzles and reading Nora Roberts novels.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 58 years (Joseph Lax Akerman, MD), eight (8) of her brothers and sisters, and her grandson Christian Burnett.
She is survived by her brother John (Texas), her five children, twelve grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
She was a loving and caring mother and grandmother. She was a faithful and caring Christian individual.
She will be missed by her family and all her friends.
