She was born in Auburn Township, PA on November 21, 1924. In 1946, she graduated from Charles S. Wilson Memorial Nursing School and was enlisted in the WWII US Cadet Nurse Corps.
She married William (Bill) R. Van Dusen, Sr. on August 17, 1946. They lived in Johnson City, NY raising six children. Her most important roles were as beloved wife and mother. She continued her nursing career until she retired. She was predeceased in death by her son UTCN John P. Van Dusen (1968) and her husband Bill (April 2013).
With her beloved husband she loved sailing, the ocean and travel. As a Viet Nam Gold Star Mother, she was actively involved in American Gold Star Mothers (AGSM) organization for many years. She served as state presidents for New York and Florida and held several positions on AGSM national board. The last as Chaplin.
She is survived by her children Cheryl E (Ronald) Gifford, Janet M (David) Corley, Christine L Van Dusen, William R Van Dusen, Jr., and Charles A Van Dusen. Grandchildren Laura Van Dusen Frost, James D Gifford, Michael A Gifford, and Michael V Van Dusen. Great-grandchildren Cody Frost, Jessica Frost, Aden Van Dusen, Lilian Gifford, Andrew Gifford, and Kolden Van Dusen. Several nieces and nephews and extended family members.
Per her wishes, her cremains will be buried at sea to join her husband.
