Thyrza was born October 3, 1933 in Newnan, Georgia to the late Alfred Berton White and Grace Park White. She graduated from Wesleyan College in Macon, GA in 1955 with a degree in mathematics and continued her studies at the University of Georgia in Athens, GA earning a pharmacy degree in 1957. Thyrza was the first woman licensed as a pharmacist in Coweta County, GA. After she was married in 1958, she lived most of her life in Claymont, DE, where she was active in many areas including bowling, PTA, and her church, Presbyterian Church of the Covenant. Thyrza moved to Cary, NC in 2010 and was an active member of Peace Presbyterian Church in Cary.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, George Richard McClure, PhD; son, Retired Air Force Col. William Berton McClure, PhD; and brother, Berton Park White.
Thyrza is survived by her daughters, Mary Louise “Holly” McClure Hood, and Rebecca Frances McClure Brubaker and husband, Alan; brother, Kirby Joseph White and wife, Jennie; grandsons, Richard Lawrence McClure and wife, Michelle, Robert William McClure, and granddaughter Tyler Hood Speers, Esq. and husband, Samuel.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, July 8, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at Peace Presbyterian Church, 1777 W. Chatham St., Cary, NC 27513.
