As a young man, Robert served in the US Army as a Medic, based in Fort Hood, TX. After returning home to the Detroit area, he began working with Stroh’s Brewery where he enjoyed employment for more than 20 years. Subsequently, Bob has also worked with the Detroit Free Press and the Detroit Edison Power Company. Upon retirement, he moved from the Detroit area to the city of Au Gres, MI. Bob was an avid outdoorsman. He loved hunting, fishing, and ice fishing. He also was an accomplished wood craftsman.
Robert is survived by his wife Dolores Craven; sons Robert (Bobby) Craven and his lifelong companion Eletta Geibig of Sterling Heights, MI; and Keith Craven and his wife Joan of Willow Spring, NC; six stepchildren; nine grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; sisters Shirley Pohalka, Phyllis Wheelen, Jerri Korner, and Judy Borka; and ex-wife and close friend Star Wilson.
Robert is predeceased by his brother Don Craven; and sisters Delores Caldwell and Marilyn Pockrandt.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, December 20, 2011 at 11 AM from Apex Funeral Home, 550 West Williams Street, Apex, NC 27502.
Family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Monday, December 19, 2011 at Apex Funeral Home. Burial follows immediately at Apex Cemetery.
Flowers are acceptable or memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Wake County or the American Diabetes Association.
