She graduated from Durham High School and a member in the Civil Air Patrol during the late 1950s. She was awarded a full scholarship to attend the United States Air Force Academy at the age of 16. After seeing a plane with her fellow patrolmen crash, she opted not to go.
She retired after 27 years of civil service with the National Centers for Health Statistics. As a Steward for the AFL CIO she fought for the rights of her fellow federal employees.
Her love for animals, plants, flowers, friends and family was second to none. She enjoyed reading, playing cards, watching movies and listening to music.
She met her beloved Eddie on New Years’ Eve 1966, and their connection was magical and their love story lives on in Heaven. They celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary on April 9, 2017.
Linda was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Edward L. Harper and son, Tracy “Hot Rod” Forbes.
She is survived by her Daughter: Raina Harper Vedell (Steve) , her 5 Grandchildren: Justin Forbes (Kieli), Ben Forbes (Jennie), Charlie Vedell, Mary Vedell and Richie Vedell. One Great Grandchild: Dale Tracy Forbes (Ben & Jennie). Close family friends: Dennis & Dottie Spathis/Alma Millas, Becky Deadmon (Avon Lady) and numerous cousins, Eddie’s extended family and former coworkers/colleagues.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 12, 2017 in the chapel at Raleigh Memorial Park. A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m with graveside immediately following.
