Julie Ann Gibson Brown, 53, of Holly Springs, went home to be with the Lord following a courageous four year battle with breast cancer on Sunday, June 5, 2022 at Duke Hock Family Pavilion Hospice in Durham, NC. She is now free from the fight endured from this disease and is rejoicing in heaven.
Julie was born December 8, 1968 in Buffalo, NY to Galen and Kathleen Gibson. She attended Canisius College where she obtained her bachelor‘s degree, met her husband, and began the lifelong friendships with the Canisius crew.
Julie will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend who was devoted to her family and caring for others. She enjoyed competing in tennis, golf, swimming, and rowing which she did growing up. She also found joy through painting, beach trips, and following the sport of boxing. She loved Tuesday movie nights with her husband, karaoke with her tennis teammates, family card tournaments and yearly Christmas talent shows with performances we’ll never forget. Julie wore many hats throughout her life in aiding Rodney in their many business ventures, but the hat she wore with the most pride was caring and raising her five children.
She was preceded in death by her father, Galen “Hoot” Gibson.
Julie is survived by her husband of 24 years, Rodney Brown, Sr.; daughters, Jasmine Brown, Raven Bailey (Danny), and Reagan Brown; sons, Rodney Brown Jr. (friend, Mariah Marquez), and Jalen Brown; grandson, Brayden Bailey; and beloved dog, Benzo; mother, Kathleen Conboy Gibson; brothers, Eric Gibson (Cindy) and Adam Gibson (Elizabeth); sister, Sarah Gibson; mother-in-law, Corareen Jackson; brother-in-law, Corenzo Callis (Mary). In addition she leaves behind cherished aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends. Many thanks to all the family, friends, visitors, meals, and community support received during this ongoing battle.
A funeral service will be held 11am Monday, June 13, 2022 at Apex Funeral Home Chapel, 550 W. Williams St., Apex, NC 27502. Burial will follow the service at Holly Springs Cemetery. The family will receive friends 4pm - 6pm Sunday, June 12, 2022 at the funeral home for a visitation.
