Tim was born on December 26, 1963 to Joyce and Jack Campbell in Raleigh and was raised in the Bayleaf area. He graduated from Millbrook High School in 1982, and two years later while taking classes at NC State, he met the love of his life, Donna (Reynolds) Campbell, dancing to “Jump” by Van Halen at Tut’s on Western Boulevard. In the 38 years since, the two built a life they loved: raising their children and spoiling their grandchildren, traveling to places near and far, growing stronger through loss, and enjoying all of their time - together.
Tim was a lover of people, and his commitment to get to know others as unique individuals touched the hearts of everyone he encountered. He loved Jesus, his wife and family, his beloved dog Sophie, the NC State Wolfpack, coffee at all times, and black cherry ice cream. His loyalty and work ethic carried him through the ranks over 35 years at SAS, from helpdesk agent to IT Director, creating friends instead of acquaintances in every interaction. He guided his children and grandchildren through their sporting careers as a coach as well as being the loudest person in the stands - and he attended every game he could. Those who knew him best will carry his warm smile, infectious laugh, dad jokes, and deep compassion for others with them as reminders of the great man they loved.
He is preceded in death by his firstborn son, Steven Michael Campbell, and his father, Jack Campbell. He is survived by his wife Donna; two children and their spouses, Brittany and Stephen Ellis and Brian and Amy Campbell; three grandchildren Kailey, Bentley, and Nolan Ellis; mother Joyce Campbell; brother Mike and spouse Becky Campbell; sister Jackie Campbell; father-in-law David Reynolds; sister-in-law Kelli and spouse Steven Graves; nephew Brandon and nieces Megan Campbell, Kylynn and Kynnly McClure, and Brooke Graves; along with a cherished extended family.
The family will receive friends and guests on Thursday, June 16, 2022 starting at 1:00 PM at Apex Funeral Home with a funeral service to follow at 2:00 PM. A graveside service will take place at Wake Memorial Park after the funeral, and the family welcomes guests to join them at a reception at Brian and Amy’s home (6308 Faucon Court, Holly Springs) at 4:30 PM.
In lieu of flowers or other customary remembrances, memorial contributions may be donated to the UNC Children’s Hospital in Tim’s memory (online at give.unc.edu/gift/timc or by mail to 123 West Franklin Street, Suite 510, Chapel Hill, NC 27514). The family requests that those joining the funeral would contribute to their provided memory box with favorite memories, stories, and expressions of condolences about Tim.
