James Clifton Upchurch was born on November 8th, 1940 to the late Heber Glenn and Ella Upchurch. James spent his life growing up in Apex. He retired from Pepperidge Farms and drove a school bus for 8 years with Wake County Schools. James enjoyed the farm life, working in the yard and gardening. He found his peace outside with nature. James was a deacon at Salem Baptist Church and was a strong Christian man. He was a dedicated provider who loved his family. James donated over 30 gallons of blood to help others in need and the gift was returned to him in his final hours.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sisters and brother, Frances Smith, Katherine Bowen, Elinor King, Ruby Council, and William Albert Upchurch.
He is survived by his loving wife Shirley Upchurch, daughter, Lisa Evans and her husband David, and granddaughter Eden Evans, and daughter Barbie Upchurch (Tag Cutchis), sisters, Nellie Goodwin, and Faye Winstead (Nicky), Francis Holt (Milton), Hazel Tudor, and Phyllis Sorensen (Mike), and his loving dog Tinker, as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.
A service for James will be held Monday, December 9, 2024 at 2:00 PM at Apex Funeral Home, 550 W Williams St, Apex, NC 27502, followed by a graveside service at Olive Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery, 600 New Hill Olive Chapel Rd, Apex, NC 27502.
Memorial contributions may be made to Samaritan's Purse for the people of Western North Carolina.
