I have been praying for Carey and his family for quite awhile. I have no doubt that some of my prayers were answered. Though some were not answered, it is not hard for me to believe that some are yet to be answered and that some may have been or have become the things Carey would have prayed for.

My edition of C.S. Lewis' book, A Grief Observed, contains an afterword by Chad Walsh. He shared various thoughts about how Lewis processed his grief after the loss of his wife, Joy.

 What Walsh observed about Lewis is true of all of us - the significant people in our lives have a major impact upon us. We are especially reminded of this when death comes.

In November of 2013, I had the privilege of hearing Ted Dekker speak. A significant idea I took away from him was this. "We tend to think we are physical beings having a spiritual experience. We really are spiritual beings having a physical experience and, that, for a pretty short time."

I am reminded by the observations of these men that we are and ought to be significantly influenced in our thoughts and actions in regard to the relative brevity of life in this world. We ought to be reminded that the grace of God is especially important in light of the brief time we are here. His grace is indeed for now but He has clearly shown that He intends for us to experience the benefits of knowing Him for eternity. This is where it begins. What happens in this life matters - the people we love, the experiences we have. He teaches us through the good and bad, the pleasure and the pain that He is with us. John Wesley, on his deathbed, was quoted as saying, "Best of all, God is with us."

My prayer for you, your family and all those who loved Carey is that, even in your pain, you would know that God is with you and working in you. May His presence be one reminder that He does, indeed, continue to give you the grace to cope with the loss. May your faith and hope be strengthened as He shows Himself strong on your behalf.

I remember working with both Carey and Patti at Barksdale.  It was a true pleasure.  Heaven has a new angel to look after us all.  My condolences to you all.

It was such a pleasure to know Carey and work with him at KBAD. Prayers for the family during this time. One thing everyone can remember about Carey was him always smiling!

It gives me comfort knowing Carey is sitting with Harry Caray and Ernest Hemmingway...and Carey Bowman is dominating the conversation!  We are all better for knowing him.  Sending prayers and condolences your way Patty Jo.

I had the pleasure to be Carey's supervisor, co-worker, and most of all friend.  There wasn't a day I would come in when he wasn't smiling or talking about his beloved Chicago Cubs.  You will be missed my friend!  My prayers are going out to you and your family!  Rest in peace Carey.

I worked with Carey and Patty Jo at Barksdale, he was the goofiest person I've known, so full of life and he ALWAYS made me laugh. Patty Jo and Bowman family: my deepest condolences for your lost (but heaven's gain).  You are in our thoughts and prayers.  Just know that his great legacy will live on with the children.
