Myrtle Boone West, long-time Calhoun County resident, died Thursday January 25, 2018 at her home in Pell City at 95 years of age. She was born July 15, 1922 in Etowah County, Alabama but made her home in Calhoun County for more than 70 years. In 2008 when she decided to give up the long-time family home in the Four Mile community of Calhoun County, she resided in the Brookdale retirement community in Huntsville for six years. She returned to central Alabama in 2014 where she resided in Pell City until her death.
In her early adult years, she was actively involved in many civic and community activities serving on the Calhoun County Extension council for six years as chairman of the Housing and Community Involvement committee, was president of the Calhoun County Homemaker's Council and has a record of 30 years of 4-H club leader service. In 1981 she was the recipient of the Alabama Resource and Leadership Development Program "Leadership Award" presented by the Alabama Cooperative Extension service. She was also active as an American Red Cross volunteer and Girl Scout leader. She was a member of Four Mile Methodist Church for over 50 fifty years serving as chairman of the cemetery committee for many years. She was an active member of Parker Memorial Baptist Church for over 30 years.
She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and enjoyed cooking and entertaining family and friends. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Daniel Boone to whom she was married for 41 years and was the father of her two children, and George Keaton West to whom she was married for 10 years.
She is survived by her son, Daniel Eugene Boone (Kathy), of Huntsville; daughter, Victoria Boone Yaeger (James), of Pell City; six grandchildren, Alison Aderholdt Zernik, Lindsey Aderholdt Sanders, Brandon Heath Boone, Matthew Leigh Boone, Rebecca Morgan Boone and Jonathon Daniel Boone; six great-grandchildren, Rylie Sharpe, Taylor Sharpe, Madelyn Boone, Darian Aderholdt, Jonah and Ruby Sanders, and two step-daughters, Judy Gonzales (Sam) and Debbie Scroggins (Bill), both of Anniston.
Visitation will be held Wednesday January 31, 2018 at Gray-Brown Funeral Home in Anniston at 1 p.m. with funeral service to follow at 2 p.m. with Dr. Mack Amos officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery in Jacksonville.
