Wellington- Funeral service for Mrs. Kay Kojima Stephens, 88, will be Friday, September 28, 2012 at 2:00 p.m., at Chapel Hill Funeral Home with Rev. Daniel Harper officiating. Burial will follow at Maple Grove. The family will receive friends this evening from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mrs. Stephens passed away Tuesday, September 25, 2012 at her residence.
Survivors include daughter, Sharon Stephens Akins; sons Bill (Glenda) Stephens and John (Dorothy) Stephens; sisters, Setsuko Kawada and Sumiko Ota; brothers, Fujio Kojima, Kiyoshi Kojima and Tetsu Kojima; grandchildren, Kim Stephens Ledbetter, Jennifer Stephens Brown, Kevin Thompson, Brian Thompson, Matthew Smith, Ian Stephens, Caleb Stephens, Derek Stephens, John Wayne Manning, Stephanie Curvin, Eric Stephens, Tyler Lee and Heather Lee Jackson, and 15 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Ian Stephens, Caleb Stephens, Derek Stephens, Kevin Thompson, Brian Thompson and Matthew Smith.
Mrs. Stephens was preceded in death by her husband, Leon Stephens; parents, IchiTara and Hana Kojima; sister, Michiko Kojima; brother, Ewao Kojima.
Mrs. Stephens was a native of Tokyo, Japan but a resident of Calhoun County for the past 55 years, where she attended Edgewood Methodist Church; she was involved with the Anniston Senior Center, Ladies Auxiliary VFW and was one of the few surviving “Forgotten Ones”
