Funeral Service for Mr. James E. Copeland, 84 of Anniston, AL will be at Chapel Hill Funeral Home at 2 pm Sunday February 6, 2022 with Rev. Tom Bonds officiating. Visitation for friends will be one hour prior to service in the Chapel. He will be laid to rest at Anniston Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Copeland passed away on February 2, 2022 at his home, surrounded by his loving family.
He is preceded in death by his cherished wife of 59 years, Helen Ruth.
He leaves behind three daughters; Kathy Marksberry (Larry), Charlene Hill (Rodney), Karen Gallahar (Wallace); four grandchildren, Kasey Bittle (Anthony), Weston Hill, Clint Gallahar (Jessica), Grant Hill (Susan Grace); nine great-grandchildren, Mason Bittle, Ansleigh Bittle, Blakelee Gallahar, Ruthie James Bittle, Connor Gallahar, Emery Bittle, Jasper Hill, Maverick Bittle, and Evelyn Hill; a sister Vicky Catlett (Jack), a brother-in-law Paul Starnes (Elizabeth) and sister-in-law Cindy Copeland.
He had a special bond with his niece Carla Cunningham (Jerry). He was also beloved by nephews and nieces Connie Stevens, Chris Baxter, David Muncher, Danny Floyd, Carol Williams, Brenda Rodriquez, Julie Mayo, Glenn Starnes, Cara Huber, Travis Starnes, Ted Starnes, Theresa Golden, Jason Boney, Leigh Schultz, Patsy Starnes and Keith Starnes and a host of great-nephews and nieces.
Also preceding were his parents William Bryant and Anna May Copeland; brothers, Jim Copeland and his wife Juanita, Bill Copeland, Doris Floyd, Lorene Winkler, Theo Copeland, Chester Copeland and Vestor Copeland.
Pallbearers will be Chris Baxter, Bryant Key, Jerry Cunningham, Jeff McDowell, Josh Mitchell and Glen Starnes.
Mr. Copeland was a life-long resident of Calhoun County. He was a member of the first graduating class of Oxford High School. He retired following a 35 year career as a mechanical engineer and inspector for the Redstone Arsenal Division of AOD.
He loved the Lord and was a devout Baptist. He was the patriarch and spiritual leader of his family. He was a proud Veteran. He will be missed by lifelong friends and his neighbors at Bynum Acres.
He was an avid hunter, a gun and bow enthusiast. His passion was for the woods and hills of Pelham Range, the depot, Choccolocco, and South Alabama. He and Ruth loved to garden and can vegetables for family and friends. He will forever be remembered for his integrity, humor compassion and his generosity.
