Hazel Sue Bell, age 86, of Anniston, Alabama, passed away on November 9, 2024. Born on October 7, 1938, to William Lee Little and Hazel Irene Davis Little, she was a devoted wife, mother, sister, and friend who lived a life filled with service, love, and passion for learning.
Sue was preceded in death by her parents; her mother, Hazel Irene Davis Little; her father, William Lee Little; her sisters, Mary Ann Roberts and Julia Seals Rieves, (half-sisters) Mildred Berland and Lynn Thorton; and her brother, Gordon Little, (half-brothers) Bruce Little, Robert Little and Scott Little. She is survived by her beloved husband of 64 years, Lelton Bell; her son, Randy Bell (Katrina); her grandchildren, Harper Bell and Jackson Bell; her sisters, Linda D’Urso (Larry) and Martha Phillips (Barry); and her brothers, Bill Little (Annette) and Tom Little, along with many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
A graduate of Jacksonville State University, Sue’s career began as a teacher, where she taught physical education and history at Walter Wellborn High School. She later earned a Master’s of Science in Education and became the librarian at Saks Middle School, where she was a beloved figure and a passionate advocate for literacy. Sue’s commitment to education and her love of books inspired countless students over the years.
Outside of her professional life, Sue was a member at Eulaton Methodist church, where she sang in the choir. She was an avid reader, and her intellectual curiosity knew no bounds. She was a lifelong bridge player, achieving the prestigious title of Life Master, and enjoyed many hours spent with friends around the bridge table. She cherished spending time with her family, and her competitive spirit was passed down to her granddaughter through their spirited card games.
Her love for family and friends was evident in everything she did. Sue was a steady and loving presence, always ready with a kind word, a helping hand, or a listening ear. She will be remembered for her warmth, her generosity, and her unwavering support of those she loved.
A memorial service will be held in her honor. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the library fund at Saks Middle School, where Sue’s legacy as a dedicated educator and librarian will continue to inspire future generations.
She will be greatly missed but forever remembered in the hearts of all who knew her.
Visitation will be in the Chapel Friday November 15, 2024 at 11:00 am. and Service will follow at 11:30 am. in the chapel @ Chapel Hill Funeral Home. Burial will proceed at Forest Lawn Gardens, 730 Golden Springs Rd. Anniston, Ala 36207
