Sabine Montgomery was born to the late Gerhard Detlefs and Uschi Detlefs on June 14, 1962, in Hamburg, Germany. She was the oldest of three daughters. At an early age, she enjoyed reading literature and listening to classical music that would forever change and set the destiny of her life. She was curious about the world, and that would define how she interacted with people from all walks of life.
Sabine completed her secondary education in Hamburg and then trained as a legal secretary. She worked several years in Hamburg as an attorney’s secretary and assistant. As she was always looking to grow in her career, she accepted employment as executive secretary, first for a large insurance company in Hamburg and later for a German-Danish manufacturing firm.
In 1999, Sabine married David Montgomery, relocating with him from Germany to the United States. The couple had three sons, Daniel, Max (deceased 2000), and Jonas.
In 2015, Sabine met Stanford Oliver, and they knew they found something special in each other. After her family, Sabine was most proud of becoming an American citizen in 2016.
To know Sabine, you were blessed to have her in your presence. She loved her friends and neighbors like family. She had a radiant personality, and you could feel her positive energy through conversations and laughter. Sabine sowed love, kindness, and happiness wherever she went, and she did everything in her life with a smile. Sabine treasured nature and often used the observations of interactions between animals to help deepen her understanding of human connections and relationships. She cherished all of God’s creatures, from the largest of animals, and birds to the smallest of insects, and plants. She treated everyone and everything with respect. Sabine had a thirst for life, family and friends and celebrated every day. Anyone who had the opportunity to share in her loving spirit, always had a good time.
While literature, music, and nature were her passions, family was her priority. Sabine, Jonas, and Stan lived together in Annapolis, Maryland up to the time of her death on the morning of April 11, 2021.
She leaves behind to celebrate her wonderful life, her two sons – Daniel and Jonas; her partner Stanford Oliver; her two sisters – Gabi and Martina; and a host of family and friends near and far. She will be missed and forever loved.
“What you leave behind is not what is engraved in stone monuments, but what is woven into the lives of others” (Pericles)
