Richard Taylor

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Richard W. Taylor (Rick) in his Annapolis home on January 2, 2024 at the age of 78. He was born in Baltimore, MD and was the son of the late Donald and Marjorie Taylor (Edie). Rick passed away peacefully after a very difficult last year of life facing serious medical conditions. He faced every challenge with strength, grace, hope and gratitude, guided by his faith in God.

He graduated from Calvert Hall College and served his country by enlisting in the US Air Force. Honorably discharged from the military, he went on to graduate from the University of Maryland, in 1974. He had 37 years of federal service at the National Security Agency.

Rick was preceded in death by his older brother James“Jimmy” Taylor and his younger sister Jane Taylor. Rick leaves behind four siblings Nancy [Fred] Buckel, Bill [Peggy] Taylor, Patricia [Bobby] Henderson and John [Gloria] Taylor, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Rick is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Lucy Taylor, who was without a doubt his best friend, quiet cheerleader and love of his life. He was a proud and loving father who leaves behind his three children Lisa Jackson [Jeff], Mike [Tracy] Taylor and Danny [Sabrina] Taylor. He was the best Pop-Pop ever to his seven grandchildren Payton, Ethan, Madison and Emily Taylor and Hayes, Sawyer and Pierce Jackson, all of whom miss him dearly already.

He was a loving husband, father, Pop-Pop and friend to many. He was a giving man who quietly helped others without being asked. His greatest joy in life was his family and he loved being together with his family to celebrate birthdays, holidays and various milestone celebrations. Always a competitor, he enjoyed a good game of croquet, cornhole or board games with family members. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, playing Bridge and Poker, and was an all-around sports enthusiast- you could always hear him yelling at the TV during a Ravens football game! He dedicated many years as a passionate youth sports coach for his children, coaching many years of soccer. He had a positive impact on kids beyond his own. Rick was very active in the Church, serving as a long-time Eucharistic Minister and Sacristan at St. Mary’s and St. John Neumann Mission Church. During their retirement years Rick and Lucy traveled extensively visiting many countries, learning new cultures, and meeting new people. Each trip was an adventure they shared together.

Visitation for Rick will be held on Thursday, January 11, 2024 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and 6:00 to 8:00 PM

at John M. Taylor Funeral Home, 147 Duke of Gloucester Street, Annapolis, Maryland. Funeral services

will take place at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 621 N. Bestgate Road, Annapolis, Maryland at

10:30, with burial to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery. There will be a gathering for family and friends at

Seelos Hall at St. John Neumann Catholic Church following the burial service.
