Kathleen passed away at Anne Arundel Medical Center on July 12th at the tender age of 52. She was surrounded by family and friends after losing a most valiant battle to breast cancer. Kathleen is survived by her loving husband Anthony Adams of 30 years, their two sons, Luke and Simon, and siblings Karen Jones (Brent), William (Mickie), Michael, Gregory (Nancy), Patrick (Janis) Schaffner, and inlaws Louisa (Michael) Agriesti, Sammy (Terease) Adams, Virginia Adams Hage, Dominic Adams, and numerouis nieces and nephews.
Kathleen was a native Annapolitan where she was born and raised by George and Jean (McCarren)Schaffner. George and Jean were both U.S Army veterans who served in World War II as a pilot and nurse in the European theatre. She was the youngest of 7 children. She attended St. Mary's School in Annapolis, MD throughout her career as a student from kindergarten to high school graduation in 1985.
She embarked on her journey to become a teacher by graduating from Towson University in 1992 with a Bachelors degree in Early Childhood Education. Following graduation she began teaching kindergarten in 1992 at Georgetown East Elementary, later transferring to Hillsmere Elementary where she would acclaim such notiriety as a visit from the Maryland State Education Director, and Lieutenant Governor to observe Anne Arundel County Public School's Pre-K program. She was also nominated for teacher of the year.
Her passion for teaching was supremely evident with her return to the classroom in May 2019 after recovering from emergency brain surgery in January of 2019. Everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her will remember Kathleen as being a loving wife, mother, and unswerving friend, along with undeniably witty sense of humor, and endearing quality of serving more food than anyone could possibly eat.
Kathleen's Memorial Service will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church 109 Duke of Gloucester Street Annapolis, Maryland 21401 on August 8th at 10:30am. Concluding the Memorial Service everyone is invited to come to the John M. Taylor Funeral Home 147 Duke of Gloucester Street Annapolis, MD 21401 for a reception from 11:30 to 1:30 pm.
