On Thursday, October 20, 2022, James Louis Myers, loving husband and father of two, passed away peacefully after battling an extended illness. A lifelong Annapolitan, he was the only son of Ruby Giles and James Oliver “Bus” Myers, born May 1, 1946. He was beloved by all who had the pleasure to know him.
Raised on the South River, Jimmy became one with boats and the Chesapeake Bay. Living on Harness Creek, he developed his love for water skiing and sailing. A lover of all sports, he was passionate about sailboat racing and downhill skiing.
In 1964, Jimmy graduated from Annapolis High School where he towered as a forward on the basketball team and played defense on their undefeated lacrosse team. Also known for his good looks, he was voted as the best-looking guy in his class.
Following high school, his education included the University of Maryland and University of Baltimore School of Law where he went on to become an entrepreneur, local developer, and successful attorney. Giving back to the community was of utmost importance to Jimmy and he was passionate about his roles as board member of Indian Creek School and as Chairman of the Board of Anne Arundel Medical Center.
At First Presbyterian Church, he was known for his love of God and for his joyous singing. In more recent years, his dock chair was his sacred place. No one will forget his good cheer and smile at the Annapolitan Club. Always working on his swing, he never turned down a round of “morning golf” at 6 am at the Naval Academy Golf Course. And Wednesday Night Racing will surely never be the same at Annapolis Yacht Club where he invited everyone he knew to be crew aboard his beloved Bucentaur, and afterwards to enjoy a Dark and Stormy.
Jimmy was the epitome of loyalty and kindness. Big hearted and charitable, he would do anything for a friend, or even an acquaintance. He loved his wife Mary T. and his “girls” Meg Henderson (Matt) of Charleston, SC and Kate Baccus (Jon) of St. Johns, FL. He relished his role as Grandpa to Myers, Oliver, and Louis and we are certain he left them not only with his namesake but also with a love of the water and watching the weather channel. His pride was made known to all through his desire to share photos on his iPad to anyone he saw.
Jimmy will be missed by all, but our fond memories will endure. His was a life well lived.
A service will be held on November 12th, 11:00 at First Presbyterian Church, Annapolis, MD. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in his name to the Chesapeake Bay Foundation.
