Christopher Martin Young

Chris cared deeply for his family and community. Born in Arlington, VA, and raised in Bowie, MD, he raised his family in the Annapolis area. He had deep-rooted relationships around Maryland with family and friends. Chris would go out of his way to help those in need. He was generous with his family as a husband, father, and grandfather. As philanthropists to their local community and around the world, Chris and his wife, Jennifer, founded the Young Family Foundation in 2005, which strives to “House the Homeless, Clothe the Needy, Feed the Hungry, Heal the Sick, and Educate the Next Generation.”

Chris was a brilliant businessman, entrepreneur, and visionary. His career began at the Department of Defense and Booz Allen Hamilton, which sparked his desire to start his own business. Chris founded Christopher M. Young, Inc. (1986) and ProObject (1995), which was routinely named one of the area’s “Top Work Places” by The Baltimore Sun. He also founded Secure Offices, The Yellowstone Group, Government Services Group, and Proximas Group. He most recently added ADG Creative to the family of companies. Working alongside Jennifer for 27 years, and with his daughters and son-in-law for the past 10 years, he continually challenged his employees to provide excellent customer service to all their federal and commercial clients.

Chris was a lifelong learner. After graduating from Bowie High School, he earned a Bachelors in Computer Science from Towson University, a Masters in Computer Science from The Johns Hopkins University. Later in life, he completed Harvard Business School's Owner/President Management Program. Chris encouraged his employees to never stop training and learning, incorporating the empowerment of his staff into his businesses’ long-term strategy.

Desiring to connect deeply and support other business owners, Chris joined the Baltimore Washington Chapter of Young Presidents Organization (YPO-WB) in 2001. During his tenure, Chris served on the Board of Directors as a Communications Officer, Information Technology Officer, Member Engagement Officer, and as a Moderator of the Forums in which he participated.

Chris was an expert boater and former sailboat racer, an avid fan of NASCAR and Formula 1, and a former triathlete. His sense of adventure led him around the world; he trekked down the coast of Chile and through Antarctica and made multiple sailing trips to Bermuda. He loved taking his family on his boat on the Chesapeake Bay, whether zipping under the Chesapeake Bay Bridge or cruising around the inlets of Annapolis.

Chris is survived by his loving wife Jennifer; daughters Meredith Y. Grigg, Caitlin Y. Pershe, Emily Y. Green, and Hannah Y. Durrwachter and sons-in-law Charles Grigg, Matthew Pershe, Andrew Green, and Scott Durrwachter; grandchildren: Peyton Grigg, Isaac Grigg, Eleanor Pershe, and Harrison Grigg; father Grafton E. Young Jr. and sister Karen Y. Pruett. He was preceded in death by his mother Jeannine T. Young.
