Of Bethesda, Maryland, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on June, 14th 2021. Born in Dublin, Ireland in 1937, Brigid emigrated to the United States at the age of twenty-four. Soon after arriving in Washington DC in 1961 she began her career at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) where she worked in the Middle East Division. During her six years with the IMF she was fortunate to travel the world extensively. She married in 1966 and her and her husband raised three boys in Bethesda, Maryland, aside from three years in Marbella, Spain. She later resumed her career, holding senior management roles at two non-profit organizations. Throughout her life she held strong views on many causes close to her heart, volunteered extensively for both social and political causes, and donated to many charities. She will be remembered by family and friends as someone who was her own person, righteous and loyal, witty and adventurous, together with a strong faith in humanity. She will also be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, daughter, aunt, sister and friend. Though she loved her adopted country, she also loved her native Ireland and almost never missed her annual visit over the 60 years she lived in the U.S.
She is survived by her three children, John, Gregory (Erica) and Omar Soueid (Bethany), and her grandchildren Madelyn, Matthew and Elizabeth Soueid. She is also survived by her sister Mary Smyth of Malahide, Ireland, and her nieces and nephews, Frank, Susan, Jennifer and Jason.
A private memorial service will be held for friends and family.
