Age 92, of Ann Arbor, Michigan, flew home to God on February 2, 2011, at
The Gilbert Residence in Ypsilanti, Michigan. Born January 11, 1919 in Ottoville, Ohio, Roger was the second son of Philip V. and Mary C. (Hoehn) Weber. At Ecorse (Michigan) High School, Roger excelled in sports, where he ran the 100 yd. dash in 10 seconds and was captain of the football team.
He was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals, but was also drafted by Uncle Sam at the same time. During WWII, he was captain of a B-17 “Flying Fortress” bomber, flew 29 bombing missions over Europe, and was part of the 8th Air Force, 390th Bomber Group. He was awarded the Bronze-Star 4 times and was also decorated with the Distinguished Flying Cross. He taught flying after the war and continued to fly other aircraft. After the war he married his sweetheart, Margaret “Rita”, on October 27, 1951. They raised six children in Farmington Hills, Michigan. He owned the Dearborn Insurance Agency, and retired in 1983. His lifelong passions were baseball and his family. He coached Little League with his sons and played/managed softball teams well into his eighties, still the designated runner on his senior softball leagues. Roger is survived by his wife of 59 years, Margaret “Rita” (Anglim); sisters Bernadette Belzek and Esther (Frank) Duzick; children Cathleen, Denise (Richard) Herrmann, Christopher, Lisa (Thomas) Hummel, Jonathan (Debra Calvert), and Margaret “Peggy” (John) Arana; 9 grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and 3 brothers. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 4, 2011, at Muehlig Funeral Chapel in Ann Arbor, Michigan from 2 – 4 and 6 - 8 pm and Saturday morning 10 am – noon. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Ann Arbor, Michigan at 1 pm Saturday, February 5, 2011. Internment will be at Great Lakes National Cemetery Holly, Michigan.
