Robert Hamton Rogers

Robert Hampton Rogers, age 91 of Ann Arbor Michigan and New Port Richey Florida. Robert H Rogers (Bob), a Texan and longtime resident of Ann Arbor, passed away peacefully on Thursday evening January 20th, 2022 at Saint Joseph Hospital in Chelsea, MI. Bob died peacefully with his daughter Angel at his bedside. Bob's 91 year old heart was very tired after a good life and he was looking forward to joining his wife and soulmate Sandra in Heaven.

Bob was born in 1930 in Fort Worth Texas where he met Sandra in high school. They were blessed with 65 years of a loving marriage and three children. Meeting as teens and marrying in Texas they moved to Michigan where Bob completed his PhD in Electrical Engineering from Michigan State University in East Lansing.

Bob was a proud Korean War veteran 1951-1953 (Lt. in the Army Signal Corps). Decorations included the UN Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal. Bob was Emeritus member of Environmental Research Institute of Michigan (ERIM) after years of working for it. He was co-author of two patents in the field of electronic circuit design. He also authored and co-authored some 50 or so technical papers in the field of Remote Sensing Applications. During his tenure with ERIM, he organized and managed some 20 or more international conferences in the area of Remote Sensing Applications. The proceedings of these conferences can be found in most university libraries where remote sensing is taught. As a team Sandra and Bob traveled to many interesting places around the world where she helped him by organizing and conducting the Guest Program while he managed the seminars.

Bob and Sandra were both interested in genealogy and did extensive research of their family history. Most of their findings are recorded at Ancestry.com. Bob was a member of Hood’s Texas Brigade Association, San Jacinto Descendants, Sons of Confederate Veterans, Sons of the Republic of Texas, Sons of the American Revolution, and General Society of the War of 1812. Bob was also a member of the US Army Signal Corps OCS Association, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Korean War Veterans Associations. Sandra was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and First Families of Tennessee.

Bob is survived by his brother Raymond H Rogers of Grapevine Texas, son Robert H Rogers Jr of San Pedro CA, and daughters Angelique (Angel) Ruth Welker of New Port Richey FL, and Lee Ann Brentar of Swarthmore PA. Bob also has five grandchildren living in California: Alicia Nunn, Nicole Hanold, Robert H Rogers III, Timothy Rogers, and Katie Rose Rogers, and two grandchildren living in Swarthmore Pennsylvania: Caio Rogers Brentar and Anabel Lyla Brentar. Bob also has eleven Great Grandkids living with their parents in California: Isabella Hanold, Penelope Hanold, Hazel Hanold, Lily Rose Nunn, Eve Marie Nunn, Lisa Jean Nunn, Duke Nunn, Lilah Lynn Rogers, Timothy Rogers, Jr,, Mia Barbara Rogers-Berlanti, and Caleb Gene Rogers-Berlanti.

Sandra and Bob were world travelers and saw many beautiful places and enjoyed many wonderful cruises together to exotic places all over the planet. In recent years, Sandra and Bob were snowbirds, enjoying the warm winters in Hollywood and New Port Richey, FL and the spring, summer, and fall in Ann Arbor.

According to his wishes, he has been cremated and will be buried next to his beloved wife Sandra at the Great Lakes National Cemetery in Michigan.
