Robert Manning

Bob was born on December 22nd, 1939 in Atlanta, Ga. He spent time in his childhood living on numerous airforce bases, including in Japan, but primarily grew up on Myrtle Beach Air Force Base in South Carolina. As a young man, and following his family tradition Bob joined the military service. He served in the Navy, Marines, Army and National Guard. He would proudly say that he did his time in the Air Force as a child, so he had served in all branches. He was especially proud of his time in the Army where he served multiple tours in Vietnam.

Following the war and Bob’s subsequent honorable discharge, he would meet his second wife Sharon (LeJeune) Manning in 1976. They would marry on July 4th, 1981. Bob always said he wanted to start his marriage off with a bang! They would go on to spend the rest of his life together, for a total of 41 years of marriage and 45 years together.

In addition to being a dedicated and passionate patriot, friends and family will remember Bob as a talented woodworker and craftsman. He would spend hours with his children on any given weekend creating everything from swings, picnic tables, and decks to bookshelves, coffee tables, and even living room furniture.

Bob was a dedicated and loyal friend, who always showed up when needed. Some of his fondest memories with friends were spent sharing his passion for hunting and fishing. They often spent weekends when they were younger at a cabin in Rose City that they all built together and would retreat to for summer holidays and hunting season.

Bob never lost his love for his hometown of Myrtle Beach. He would return to live there several times during his long marriage. The ocean always called to him and he would spend hours finding serenity in walking the beach and collecting shark’s teeth.

In his later years, Bob would delight in spending time with his numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

Bob is preceded in death by his mother and stepfather Agnes and Robert Allen, His father Frank Manning, brother Steven Allen, son Steven Manning, and daughter Tammy Bradmon.

Bob is survived by his wife Sharon Manning and children Marsha Manning, Colleen (Mark) Hamel, Kelley (Jim) Emerson, Elizabeth (Brock) Lloyd, Jacob Manning, and Joseph Manning, his sister Sharon (Audie) Hardee and brother William (Eva) Allen. He is also survived by 39 grandchildren (one of which, Bobby Manning, he raised), 27 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.

Bob's family will hold a Memorial Service at 3pm on Friday, September 16, 2022 at Muehlig Funeral Chapel, 403 S. 4th Ave., Ann Arbor, MI 48104. Memorial Visitation will begin at 2:00pm and continue until the time of Service. Bob's service to our country will be honored at the beginning of the Memorial Service.
