Smith, Mildred (Millie) Lois of Ann Arbor, MI died Thursday, April 23, 2015. She was 73 years old. Mildred was born in Monroe, MI November 2, 1941 the daughter of George and Ethel Mell. Upon graduation Mildred went to Cleary College graduating in 1960. She worked at the University of Michigan until 1965. She later worked for the Ann Arbor City Clerk’s Office. She married her husband Charles T. Smith at the Dixboro United Methodist Church in 1965, sadly he preceded her in death in 2001 after 36 ½ years of marriage. Mildred was a very active member in the Westside United Methodist Church and an honorary member of the Washtenaw Sportsman’s Club. She loved music, gardening, bowling and she was a very avid University of Michigan Sports fan. Mildred also loved belonging to and the many excursions she took with the Pittsfield Township Seniors. She leaves behind to cherish her memory her children; Mitchell (Alicia) Smith and Gordon Smith, five grandchildren, two brothers; George (Darlene) Mell and Dennis Mell, and sister; Alice (Tom) Cheesman. There are many nieces, nephews, cousins and several special friends who also survive her. She was also preceded in death by her parents, a daughter; Cristine Kay in 1966, her sister; Mary Hause and a brother; Roger Mell. A funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 30, 2015 at the Westside United Methodist Church (900 South Seventh Street). Visitation will be Wednesday, April 29 at the Muehlig Funeral Chapel from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. and Thursday at the church from 10 a.m. until the hour of the service. Burial will follow at Washtenong Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial Donations may be offered to the Westside United Methodist Church or the Alzheimer’s Association.
