It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Lorraine Kearnes Alexander on August 28 at the age of 95. She was born on August 25, 1929, in Chicago IL, to Virginia Wayland and Charles Kearnes. In 1950, she married the love of her life, Richard Dale Alexander, and they had two daughters. The family moved to Ann Arbor in 1957, and later to their cherished horse farm Woodlane Farm in Manchester, Michigan.
An accurate summation of Lorrie was described in song verse by daughter Susan:
My mom’s heart is as big as the sun
Sweet and giving to everyone
She focused on family and making it great
She’s the glue for us
The center, the nucleus
My mom Lorraine.
This is who Lorrie was: an exceptional mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and wife. She loved raising her girls, spending time with her family, friends, and her favorite lab Maggie. She also enjoyed reading, knitting, games, working at Ideation. She decorated their home with treasures and art collected during their many travels across the world – Fiji, Japan, Romania, Mexico, Kenya, Columbia, etc., as well as a momentous sabbatical year in Australia. Later in her life she never tired of driving through the countryside that surrounded the farm.
Lorrie was preceded in death by her devoted husband Richard Dale Alexander, daughter Susan Dale Alexander, and sister Marie Hullinger. She is survived and deeply missed by her daughter, Nancy Lorraine Alexander, grandchildren Morgan Alexander Johnson (Collin Kinross), Lydia Lorraine Turner (Ashley Turner), Lincoln Alexander Turner, and Winona Rose Alexander, as well as two great-grandchildren Zeke and Colline. The immediate family will be having a private celebration of life for both Lorraine and Susan in California.
In memory of Lorrie, donations can be given to the Manchester High School, Equestrian Team, 20500 Dutch Drive, Manchester MI 48158
