Ransom, John W. 4/18/1931 - 2/14/2015 Ann Arbor, MI John Walter Ransom was born on April 18, 1931 to Walter and Maycle Ransom. He was a resident of Ann Arbor for his entire life except for his time served in the United States Air Force from 1949-1952. In November of 1951, while in the Air Force, he married Rita Fleshman. After returning from the Air Force he bought Purchase Camera Shop where he had worked since his teenage years. He was active in the Ann Arbor Chamber of Commerce, South University Business Association, and the American Legion. He played an instrumental role in the formation of the Ann Arbor Street Art Fair. John had a lifelong love of music, especially in the Jazz Standards. He became a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in 1988. John's first wife, Rita, preceded him in death in 1982. In 1984, he married Francis Morgan. She preceded him in death in 2002. In addition to his two wives, his infant daughter, Sharon Irene, also preceded him in death. He is survived by his son, Donald (Barbara) of Kansas, his daughter, Kathleen (Chris) of Michigan. He is also survived by four grandchildren; Bryan and Amanda Heckenkamp of Michigan as well as Kristopher Ransom of Minnesota and Lauren Ransom (Kersten) of Kansas. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 17 at Muehlig Funeral Chapel from 4-7 PM. The funeral service will take place Wednesday, February 18 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church at 11 AM. Internment at Arbor Crest Cemetery will immediately follow.
