John passed away peacefully on October 24,2024 after a three-year battle with cancer. John was born on May 11,1948 to Joseph Douglas and Mary Jane (Corey) in Detroit, Michigan. He attended St. Gemma Grade School in Detroit and remained connected with that community for his entire life. He graduated from Catholic Central High School and continued his education at Michigan State University where he earned a BS in accounting. Following college graduation, John served his country as a US Army military police officer stationed in Munich, Germany. After completing military service, John worked as a CPA-CFO at multiple companies in the Detroit metro area and received a master’s degree in taxation from Walsh College. John also taught accounting classes at the Detroit College of Business for several years. John was a humble man who loved traveling and all things sports, both as a spectator and as a participant. He played softball throughout his adult life.
John will be remembered as the beloved husband of Clara (Nalli) Bohrer and dear brother of Janet (Patrick) Scheetz, Patricia (David) Brand and Douglas (Peggy) Bohrer. He is also survived by sister-in-law Laura Nalli and brother-in-law Robert Plagany, as well as many nieces and nephews.
John was preceded in death by his parents, sister Mary Ann Plagany, brother Matthew Bohrer, parents-in-law Lorenzo and Clarice Nalli and brother-in-law Victor Nalli.
John will be greatly missed and forever remembered.
In accordance with John’s wishes, a private Memorial Mass will be celebrated at a later date. Arrangements are entrusted to Muehlig Funeral Home in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
Memorial donations may be sent to the Rogel Cancer Center/UofM Health, Angela Hospice, or a charity of your choice.
