He is survived by his devoted children: Christopher Nelson and fiancée Kasey Kroske, Michael Nelson and wife Tara Nelson along with their two children Lauren and Natalie, Kyle Nelson-Purcell and wife Kaye Eshelman, and Aaron Nelson-Purcell and wife Sue Kim. Donn was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jane Purcell.
From an early age Donn had a love for music, picking up guitar in his childhood. As a young adult Donn played in and was a roadie for various bands, where his passion for music flourished. These experiences continued to shape his love for music, ultimately leading him to choose to support it professionally. Donn founded Pro Media Marketing selling audio and lighting equipment with a focus on interpersonal relations and client support. Through this company he created many close working relationships, undoubtedly leaving an everlasting mark in the field. Colleagues and employees alike considered him not just a business associate, but a cherished friend and mentor. His pioneering spirit and commitment to excellence leave a legacy that continues to inspire those around him even now.
Beyond his professional achievements, Donn had an abiding love for his family. His role as a father and grandfather brought him immeasurable joy. He cherished every moment spent with his children and grandchildren, creating lasting memories that will be treasured for generations. In addition to his immediate family, Donn maintained a close relationship with the sisters of his late wife Jane. He could always find comfort and support in an extended family that remains connected through love and shared memories.
Donn had a passion for life that extended beyond his work. He enjoyed classic cars, embarking on road trips with friends and family, playing and listening to music, working on classic bikes, and sharing his love for Disney World. His late dog, Misha, was a constant companion, and their bond was a testament to the depth of Donn's compassion. A true connoisseur of the simple pleasures, Donn enjoyed the comfort of classic American diners, drive-ins and dives, sipping on coffee, and indulging in his favorite donuts. His kindness and generosity were boundless, leaving an enduring impact on all fortunate enough to call him a friend.
A memorial service will be held at Muehlig Funeral Chapel in Ann Arbor, on Saturday, March 2, 2024 from 12:00-4:00 p.m. In celebration of Donn’s life, “funeral attire” is encouraged to reflect Donn’s eccentricity, free spirit, and love of rock and roll. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Donn’s honor to Donate Life America (a nonprofit organization increasing the number of donated organs, eyes & tissue available to save & heal lives)
As we bid farewell to Donn D. Nelson, may his legacy of generosity, love, and warmth live on in the hearts of those he touched. May he rest in peace.
