Born in Huntington, West Virginia. Constance attended Marshall University, graduating with an AB degree, summa cum laude, with Honors in Psychology. She then attended graduate school at the University of Michigan, where she received the ABLS and AMLS degrees, and received the Hopwood Award in Poetry. She also published two books on librarianship, one volume of poetry, and wrote numerous articles.
First employed at Goucher College in Baltimore, Maryland, Constance later returned to Ann Arbor for a position at the University of Michigan Graduate Library. In 1967 she began a new career as an assistant professor in the School of Library Science (now Information), where she retired in 1988 as professor and assistant dean.
She was preceded in death by her parents Benton Porter Rinehart and May McClure (Smith) Rinehart. She is survived by loving friends and by her cat, Coco.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday September 13, at 10AM, at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 306 N. Division St., Ann Arbor, MI, where Constance was a long-time member.
In lieu of flowers, friends are asked to remember the Memorial Fund of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, or to plant seeds for pollinators in whatever plot of ground they may be able to access.
