Wayne Alvin Busch, 77, of Ankeny, passed peacefully away at home on July 14, 2018. He was born on June 13, 1941 to parents, George and Marie (Folkerts) Busch of rural Allison. He was baptized at the Allison Associated Church and confirmed at the Reformed Church of Allison. He attended Allison Community Schools where he graduated valedictorian of his senior class in 1959. He received his Masters and Ph.D. degree in meat science and food technology from Iowa State University. On September 2, 1967, he was united in marriage to Kathleen Barry in Fayette.
He was involved in quality control and research and development for Swift Foods in Oakbrook, IL; Gwaltney in Smithfield, VA; and became Vice President for Farmland Foods in Denison, IA and Kansas City, MO. Upon retirement he moved to Ankeny.
Wayne enjoyed gardening, fishing, bike riding, following stocks, attending grandchildren’s basketball games and spending time with family. He was a devoted husband and loving father and grandfather.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents and his brother-in-law, Roger Stauffer. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Kathleen; son, Michael Busch of Ankeny; daughter Lisa Baumhover (Neil) of Woodward; grandchildren, Allison, Joseph, and James Baumhover; sister, Lois Stauffer of Allison; brothers, Wendell Busch (Beverly) of Cedar Falls and Maurice Busch (Connie) of Allison; uncles, James Busch (Marlene) of Lamont and John Johnson of Cedar Falls.
Funeral services will be 10 am on Wednesday, July 18 at Our Lady’s Immaculate Heart Church in Ankeny, with luncheon following the service. Visitation will be from 5-7 pm on Tuesday evening at Ankeny Funeral Home. Visitation will continue on Wednesday morning at 9 am until service time at the church. Burial will be at 3 pm at the Allison Cemetery. Following the committal service there will be a visitation with a light meal at the Reformed Church in Allison.
