Susan Stonebrook Triggs, formerly of Ankeny, IA, 75, passed away on Thursday, December 9, 2021, in Spirit Lake, Iowa. A visitation will be held Tuesday, December 14th, 2021 at 11:00am with burial to follow at Oralabor Cemetery in Ankeny, Iowa.
Susan was born on February 8, 1946, in Omaha, Nebraska to Rollin K. and Loraine (Wartchow) Stonebrook. Susan’s Father (Daddy, as she referred to him) managed many theaters throughout his life which took the family from one destination to another. Cities included Omaha, NE, Chicago, IL, and finally Cherokee, IA where she graduated from Cherokee High School in 1964. Susie would then attend Cosmetology school in LeMars, IA, and marry her first husband which would give her two children, son Jeff in 1965 and daughter Karen in 1966. The family relocated to Hampton IA in 1970. After becoming a single parent, she met the love of her life, in 1978, at a Parents Without Partners dance in Mason City, IA, Sue was united in marriage to Harley C. Triggs on June 16, 1979. Two families became one, there was a birth of a nation, and a house became a home to 6 kids, two parents, various dogs, and lots of laundry cooking, and baking followed.
Though Sue had many jobs throughout her lifetime (concessions at the drive-in movie theater in Cherokee, We-3 bakery manager in Hampton, Girl Friday at the Needlewoman in Hampton, and Customer Service at Northwestern Bell in Des Moines), her most treasured job was being a mom. And she was really good at it. She built a home with Harley and together they built a family. She never, ever missed a birthday, an anniversary, Christmas, or any other holiday. She and Harley also never, ever missed a school conference. She took a lot of pride in her home, had almost every kitchen gadget out there, everything was always in its place and spic and span clean.
Harley and Sue moved to Ankeny Iowa in the 1980s and were members of the Ankeny Presbyterian Church. Both were deacons at the church and helped with Wednesday night activities for the church kids. Sue and Harley enjoyed shopping together and were each other's best friends.
