Jolene was born January 17, 1956, in Columbus, Nebraska to Henry Jr. and Delores Zohner Brase. She graduated from Shelby High School in Shelby, NE. Jolene was united in marriage to Larry Nikl on June 20, 1990, in Racine, Wisconsin. They welcomed three children, Douglas, Kristina and Rebecca. Jolene attended Des Moines Area Community College in Ankeny to become a Dental Hygienist and was most recently working at Ingersoll Dental before her passing.
After watching her children play soccer over many years, Jolene herself became a referee for the game, refereeing many games in the Des Moines area. After years of refereeing, she became an instructor of certification classes where she taught aspiring referees the laws of the game. She was also an avid gardener, enjoyed bird watching, and enjoyed trips in her camper. Most of all though, she loved family time.
Left to cherish her memory are Jolene’s husband, Larry Nikl; children: Douglas Nikl of Colorado, Kristina and Rebecca Nikl, both of Iowa; a sister, Verlene Frey and mother-in-law, Lois Nikl. Jolene was preceded in death by both of her parents; father-in-law, Lawrence Nikl; and 3 brothers, Eugene, Henry III, and Robert Brase.
Memorials may be directed to: Craig Hospital and Quality Living Inc. Memories and condolences of Jolene may be shared with her family on her page at www.ankenyfuneralhome.com.
