Gabriel was an awesome and very loving son, nephew, cousin, and friend. He was an inspiration for most, if not all, whom he came in contact with. His love for the Lord was second to none, and as he often said; “I am the way I am and I accept who I am because it what the Lord has sent my way.” He will definitely be missed by all. (Gabriel was involved in a pedestrian accident on New Year’s Day, 2011. He and his mom were out walking when a driver did not yield the walkway to them. Gabriel saw the approaching car and kept his mom from bodily injury by pushing her aside-getting struck and dragged by the vehicle himself. As the result of this accident, he suffered major brain trauma and underwent many surgeries. For his actions of this fateful day Gabriel, still sixteen years old, received the Profile in Courage award from the Buena Park police department and was knighted by Medieval Times.) Gabriel also often said: “God has a plan for me; it is not clear what the plan is; I accept this life God has given me; God is good.”
Gabriel was preceded in entering the Lord’s home by his Nana, Natalia Soliz (maternal grandmother) and Yolanda Flores (aunt). He is survived by his mother, Veronica Soliz (Anahiem); Uncle Robert Flores (Sandy, Utah),; Aunt Lorraine and Uncle George De Luna (Plano, Texas); first cousins Ralph, George, Ruben, Gracie, Tessie, Steven, Erik, and Heather; and many loving great-aunts and cousins.
Gabriel was dubbed “Chicken” by his friends because he loved eating chicken. He would help his mom make ends meet by collecting and selling cans and plastic bottles. Gabriel’s favorite moments included “messing” with his mom; listening to almost all kinds of music-usually from the late 1980’s and earlier (yes, even Frank Sinatra); hanging out with his buddies at 3Js and swap meets; taking photographs of the beach, the moon, and any other setting that tickled his fancy; often getting a flower for his mom; and cooking. He was a Pokémon aficionado and his favorite color was PURPLE.
Pall-bearers are Veronica Soliz, Eddie Torres, George De Luna, Bobby Soliz, Chums Pugiloa, Rob Abronson, and Robert Rodriguez. Honorary pall-bearers are all of his cousins and friends.
