Jerry, fourth of six children to Clifford A. and Florence J. (Templeton) Rogers, was born on January 19, 1943, in Griswold, Iowa.
After moving to Ames in 1955 with his family and graduating from Ames High School in 1961, Jerry honorably served in the U.S. Army from 1964-1966. While stationed and training in Fort Sill, Oklahoma, he met his wife, Mattie Parker and they married on June 25, 1965, in Baumholder, Germany.
Upon returning from Germany Jerry and Mattie worked side by side for 34 years running Rogers TV & Electronics before closing its doors in 2000. Jerry then went to work at Iowa State University in the Communications Department and retired in 2010.
Jerry gave his life to the Lord in 1965. After joining Heartland Baptist Church, he became involved in the AV Ministry, served as a Deacon of the church, in the Men’s Visitation Ministry, and on the Mission’s Committee. He was dear to all and will be greatly missed at Heartland Baptist Church. He is leaving a legacy of leadership, compassion, patience, and faithful and joyful service in serving Jesus.
