Sherman Lee Jones, 87,of Amarillo, died Tuesday, Oct 29, 2019. Sherman was born April 10, 1932 to W.O. (Casey) Jones and Eunice Lowry Jones in Spade, Texas. He proudly enlisted in the Company B 1st Battalion, 29th Infantry Division US Army in 1949. He was captured in Korea and was a POW. Sherman was gravely injured in the Sunchon Tunnel Massacre.
On Oct 3, 1958 Sherman married Oleta V Kirkpatrick and gained a little daughter, Marsha. Prayers were answered when they adopted LeeDon , who was born March 18, 1962, with severe disabilities, but they understood and he was so loved. More blessings arrived on LeeDon's 12th birthday when they adopted Teena 5 and Kristi 2 in 1974.
In 2006, after graduating from Spade High School, he was joined with survivors of the Massacre in Branson Mo for a memorable reunion with his brothers and given a real heroes welcome that they all so deserved.
He was a member of the Amarillo Indoor Sports Club and various service related organizations and the Church of Christ.
In 2009, he married Nelda and welcomed her family with open arms.
Sherman - Sherm- Dusty-Daddy- Grandaddy loved with all his heart. Family, friends and the love of his country melted our hearts, but he loved his Lord and was a shining example and hero to all.
He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, precious son "LeeDonnie" and loving wife of 48 years, Oleta and a Daughter in Law Cathy Richards.
Survivors include his precious wife, Nelda, her daughter, Nila, and her two sons, Bobby and Marshall. Daughters: Marsha Eastep, Teena Jones and Kristi Mills. Seventeen grandchildren and Twenty six great grandchildren.
Many other dear relatives and friends join us in mourning his passing.
