Leslie ‘Walt” Van Walter, 77 of Amarillo passed away September 11, 2013. Funeral Service will be 10:00 am Monday September 16, 2013 at Memorial Park East Mausoleum Chapel with John Elser, Chaplain Thomas E. Creek VA Hospital officiating. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery by Griggs-Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors, 5400 S. Bell. Leslie Van Walter was born, July 14, 1936 in St. Paul Minnesota to Delbert and Cora Walter. Leslie attended St. Paul High School and enlisted in the U. S. Navy in 1953 and was honorably discharged in 1957. He retired from the U. S. Air Force in 1974 after 20 years of service. Upon retirement he received a Certificate of Appreciation for Service in the Armed Forces of the U. S. Air Force Commendation Medal. After retirement, he worked and lived in Big Springs and in the mid 1970’s he moved to Amarillo and worked for ASARCO and retired in 1990. After retirement from ASARCO he owned and operated his own automotive air conditioning business. He loved antique automobiles and was a member of the Antique Automobile Club of America. He married Joyce Walter on October 24, 1994 in Amarillo. Walt was preceded in death by his first wife, LaJuana Lucille Cutler, and a daughter, La Donna Lynn Walter stillborn in 1965. He is survived by his wife, Joyce Walter of Amarillo; his son, Leroy Dorman Walter of Castle Rock, Colorado; adopted grandsons, D.J. Walter and Michael Walter both of Amarillo; brother, Delbert “Bud” Walter and wife Joan of North Carolina; sisters, Sarah Friberg of Minnesota and Florence Fritz of Arizona
