Kathryn Mize, age 99, of Amarillo, Texas passed away on Monday, April 3, Kathryn was a remarkable woman. She was born in Seymour, Texas in 1923. As a girl Kathryn was a rodeo queen, participating in cutting horse and barrel racing. She spent time during WWII with her sister in San Diego, California enjoying the sun and the movie stars. After moving to Amarillo in the late 40s, Kathryn met and married Charles E. Mize in 1949. She was a prominent realtor in the 60s owning Kathryn Mize Realty. Kathryn worked with her husband Charles for many years at his company TEE VEE, INC.
The favorite thing in her life was fishing. She traveled to Alaska multiple times, as well as Florida, Canada, Hawaii and Costa Rica catching more fish than you can imagine. As an officer in the local Widowed Persons Service, Kathryn helped many people adjust to the loss of a spouse. She also has a place in her heart for helping the families of the mentally ill. You might be surprised to know that Kathryn was a published poet and member of the Cowboy Poet Society. Memorials can be made to Westcliff Bible Church Ministry Program for the families of the mentally ill.
Kathryn was preceded in death by her husband Charles E. Mize and survived by her daughter Marilyn K. Lawhon and son John D. Mize, 6 grandchildren, 7 ½ great grandchildren and lots of nieces and nephews who all truly loved her. She will always be known as the forever young Aunt Kathryn.
