Jewel G. Bohanan, 98 of Amarillo passed away June 19, 2014. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, June 23, 2014 at Griggs-Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors Pioneer Chapel with Dr. Gil Lain of Paramount Baptist Church officiating. Interment will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery by Griggs-Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors, 5400 S. Bell. Jewel was born April 18, 1916 in Texas County, Oklahoma to L.R. and Roxanne Grice. She grew up in the Oklahoma panhandle throughout the Dust Bowl and the Great Depression. She moved to Amarillo in 1940. Jewel graduated from Oklahoma A&M College in Goodwell, Oklahoma, now Oklahoma Panhandle State University, with a Bachelor’s degree in Social Studies. Although she never taught public school, she taught many years as a Sunday school teacher. She was a very good seamstress and would make afghans and sweaters for everyone in her family. Jewel was also a fabulous cook and enjoyed having her family to her house to cook for them. She always had a gorgeous yard and a plush green garden. Another hobby of hers was her China painting and lots of family members have these treasures painted and given to them by her. Her passion was volunteering, she had been a volunteer for BSA Hospital since the late 1960’s. Above all she was a loving and devoted wife, mother, sister and grandmother and she will never be forgotten. She was preceded in death by her husband, L.C. Bohanan; her parents and a daughter, Jo Dickinson. Jewel is survived by her sons, Ronal Bohanan and wife Marty and Jerry Bohanan, both of Amarillo; 5 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; she is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
