July 21, 2021. She was born in Amarillo, Texas at St. Anthony’s hospital to Kermit and Lena Mary Schramm. Jane completed the family with her two older brothers, grew up to be active in gymnastics and dance, and attended AISD public schools through her high school graduation. She was 86 years old.
Jane met James Striley in high school and married him as soon as she graduated. He died in a work-related accident leaving her with four small children. But she met Cleo (Pete) Johnson, and she always said he was a blessing. They married June 6,1964 and enjoyed 57 years with her children, his daughter, and their son.
Jane read daily devotionals with her Bible, painted pictures, was active in the church women’s group, and loved the color green in her home carpet and decorations, personal clothing and accessories, and Christmas trees. Along with raising children and a menagerie of dogs, she and Pete attended San Jacinto Methodist Church, built a house in Tascosa Hills, led a Boy Scout troop, square danced, made and went to doll shows, and traveled the country with their camper. In later years, they bought property and built a small cabin in McAlister, OK on Lake Texhoma. They would spend spring and early summer there fishing and visiting with their lake friends.
All of these activities gave Jane great memories she loved to share with friends and family, and no one was ever a stranger. She was always quick with a hug to greet you and happy for company even if it interrupted old reruns of Perry Mason or Gunsmoke, or the news. Jane never quit sending cards with special notes and scriptures to loved ones who recognized mail from her because of the uniquely hand-decorated envelopes.
Jane is survived by her husband, Cleo (Pete) Johnson, Jr., son Danny Striley and his wife, Barbara of Amarillo, daughter Cheryl Duke and her husband, James of Lubbock, daughter Karen DeSain of St. Peters, MO, daughter Gina Jenkins and her husband, Lawrence of Oklahoma City, son Joel Johnson of Amarillo, and “adopted daughter” Janelle Johnson of Amarillo. She is also survived by her brother Sammy Don Schramm of Albuquerque. Her son Garre Striley and her brother Darryl Schramm pre-deceased her. She leaves a legacy of 19 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren, and a favorite Bible verse, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” NIV, Jeremiah 29:11
